Embracing the not-knowing. Grasping the fundamental principle of existence. This weekend with Mark O’Brien is intended to take your dynamic practise to a different level in body-mind-awareness. For teachers, this weekend will be particularly beneficial both in terms of the architecture of your classes and inspiration in your teaching. Join us this weekend – 21-22 May with Mark O’Brien.
“Gradually, each in our own way we discover that living from the Source – which often feels like living from Not-knowing – has an uncanny wisdom about it…. It is what the English philosopher Douglas Harding calls ‘alert idiocy’. Grasping the fundamental principle of existence is recognising that deep down one knows nothing…” — Richard Lang

I want students to feel confident to listen to their own bodies and develop enough comfort and strength in their practice that they can enjoy the sense of flow. There are so many useful tidbits and insights I’ve picked up exploring yoga, and these are fun to share and can make dealing with niggles and potential irritations in life a lot easier to handle.” – Harriet Adams

This weekend workshop, comprising four sessions, is an excellent comprehensive introduction to and progressive practise on Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Paul Frechtling has a very personalised approach to teaching Ashtanga, preferring to work closely with individuals in smaller groups, as opposed to large groups.
What this means for you as far as attending this series of sessions is a refinement to your practise and the potential to experience the full range of your ability – under the guidance of a very advanced senior teacher. Paul is known for his easy going, laid back approach that is “without ego”, accessible, and fun.

“Having trained with Paul, he is known for his easy going, laid back approach that is “without ego”, accessible, and fun. The benefits from working and practising with Paul are incredible and palpable from your first class. He embodies a natural grace, soft focus, confidence and ease from years of teaching and practise. This is accompanied by a laid back easy manner and joyful light humour. The sum of which magically ignites a natural sense of joy in one’s practise, a spontaneous expansion and openness in the body, successfully bringing about and tapping into the student’s full potential on the mat. Paul is one of Australia’s most senior Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga instructors, and this is an experience not to be missed.” – Monica Anderson, Director CYS
HOW DO THE FOUR SESSIONS WORK?
Enrolment is for all four sessions. This is designed to allow progressive work over the course of the weekend in both formats – a group led practise, and Mysore (one-on-one) practise.
The Mysore session is staggered in three waves – three groups of 6 students. It is important to arrive on time at your designated time, so Paul can begin working with you, whilst transitioning the earlier group to finish the latter part of their practise. The start times for Mysore sessions are 6am, 7am, and 8am. Full practise for each group of six runs for an hour and a half from the time they commence. You are welcome to leave at the end of your practise. The last wave, will finish their practise at 9:30am. Once you have enrolled for all four sessions, we will email you your designated start time for your two Mysore sessions. There are six slots for each wave.
Bookings are essential as places are strictly limited to 18 participants.
For very advanced practitioners who only want to attend the two Mysore sessions – you can enrol in the Mysore sessions only. Early bird of $60 for two (2) sessions until 31 March 2016. $70 from 1 April 2016. Click on this link to purchase two credits for the Mysore sessions. Once you have purchased the credits, you will receive an enrolment email with your allocated time slot for each of the two Mysore sessions.
ABOUT PAUL FRECHTLING
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga has been a big part of Paul’s life for the last 20 years. He was introduced to yoga in the late eighties and began a dedicated daily Ashtanga practice around 1992. Finding the flow of breath and postures of Ashtanga so beneficial for both body and mind, Paul began teaching this style to others so they could also feel the benefits. Paul now teaches in Sydney and the Blue Mountains.
Paul has been to Mysore, India to study under the master Sri K Pattabhi Jois and his grandson, Sharath, who gave him authorisation to teach. Other teachers who have greatly influenced him have been Graeme Northfield, Peter Swanson and Eileen Hall.
He teaches with care and understanding to slowly cultivate deeper awareness and encourage a daily practice.
Paul has studied Anatomy and Physiology to encourage greater body awareness, pranayama and meditation. He has worked with people with injuries and illness and found Ashtanga Yoga to be beneficial for all types of people.

Don’t miss the impressive Kenton Turner — dipping back into teaching while Kat Sadler is away these next two weeks. Kenton will be teaching TUESDAYS Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Class at 5:45-7:15PM, tomorrow and next week – 16 & 23 February 2016. Sign up today through our timetable.
What to expect from this class and style of yoga –
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a strong dynamic style. It is one of the two main traditional yoga styles hailing from India.
This practise is suitable for beginners to experienced students who are generally fit with no mobility issues (i.e. it is NOT suitable for absolute beginners who are not physically fit). New students are very much welcome.
In this class you will learn the correct vinyasa (breath synchronised with body movement) and safe postural alignment. Experience the benefits arising from a strong meditative practise.
This is a 1.5 hour led class. The class is half of the Primary Series – leading up to Navasana / Boat Pose.
See you on the mat!
