Kenton Turner teaching Ashtanga Yoga for the next two Tuesdays!

Kenton Turner is teaching Ashtanga Yoga for the next two Tuesday evenings - 16 and 23 February 2016

Don’t miss the impressive Kenton Turner — dipping back into teaching while Kat Sadler is away these next two weeks. Kenton will be teaching TUESDAYS Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Class at 5:45-7:15PM, tomorrow and next week – 16 & 23 February 2016. Sign up today through our timetable.

What to expect from this class and style of yoga –

Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is a strong dynamic style. It is one of the two main traditional yoga styles hailing from India.

This practise is suitable for beginners to experienced students who are generally fit with no mobility issues (i.e. it is NOT suitable for absolute beginners who are not physically fit). New students are very much welcome.

In this class you will learn the correct vinyasa (breath synchronised with body movement) and safe postural alignment.  Experience the benefits arising from a strong meditative practise.

This is a 1.5 hour led class.  The class is half of the Primary Series – leading up to Navasana / Boat Pose.

See you on the mat!

Namaste

This is a series of 4 workshops. This course will cover important fundamentals of the Ashtanga Yoga primary series (Yoga Chikitsa). Building on from the first course which covered the standing postures, this course will move through the first half of the seated sequence, focussing on forward bends, hip openers and twists, and introduce the finishing sequence, which includes a variety of inversions. Students will also be introduced to some basic pranayama techniques and learn how to move through the sequence in time with the traditional Sanskrit count.

At the end of the course, students will feel confident taking a half primary class or practising in a Mysore setting. As you will be learning a sequence of yoga postures, it is important that you attend each class in order.

What is Ashtanga MYSORE? by Kat Sadler

Ashtanga MYSORE – Kat Sadler teaches Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, a strong and dynamic style of yoga, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:45PM. Tuesday is an Ashtanga Led Class. Thursday is an Ashtanga MYSORE class.

Paul Frechtling Ashtanga YogaMYSORE style is the traditional way of practicing Ashtanga Yoga. Rather than being led through the Ashtanga sequence as a class, each student moves through the series at their own pace with individual instruction and hands-on adjustment provided by the teacher. This type of environment supports each individual to work to his or her full capacity. It is the safest way to learn Ashtanga Yoga, with students repeating postures until they area comfortable enough to progress.

MYSORE classes are open to anyone, from beginners to advanced students and from young to old, regardless of fitness, strength or flexibility. Beginners start with a shorter practice but are provided more one-on-one assistance from the teacher. Experienced students work independently through the practice, becoming more attuned to his or her breath, whilst focusing the mind and cultivating calmness.

Benefits of a MYSORE class

1. It is open to anyone and everyone. You work at your own pace and can spend more time on the postures you find challenging.

2. You can show up anytime. No need to rush from work to class. You only need to arrive early enough to finish your practice before the end of the class.

3. Learn how to cultivate mindfulness by moving in time with your breath rather than the teacher’s count.

FAQs

1. What if I forget what to do next? Just ask the teacher!

2. Is it OK to sit in meditation before or after my practice?
Absolutely.

3. How do I stop my mind from wandering? This is something that everyone struggles with. Focus your attention on your breath or drishti (gazing point) and if you find your mind wandering again, gently bring it back to your practice.
