We are very pleased to announce that KNOFF YOGA will be running their ‘Yoga for Holistic Healing A’ (Yoga Therapy) Teacher Training at Canberra Yoga Space this October 2018.

Yoga for holistic healing is the all inclusive approach to physical and mental well-being that treats acute or chronic ailments, injuries or mis-alignments by bringing the whole body into symmetry and balance through yoga –

  • Postures
  • Breath Work
  • Meditation

KNOFF YOGA runs Yoga Holistic Healing A and B. The course this October is ‘Yoga Holistic Healing A’ which deals with the physiology level of yoga therapy. ‘Yoga Holistic Healing B’ is the second stage option to progress to, which covers the more subtle components of yoga therapy (on an energetic and psychological level).

The Yoga Holistic Healing Teacher Training A will run from Monday 8 to Friday 12 October 2018. This is a non-residential teacher training.

The training will be by Master Yoga Teacher, James E. Bryan (ERYT500), who is the Program Director at KNOFF YOGA in Cairns.

Approach

Yoga techniques are adapted to meet the needs and capabilities of the student in personalised one-on-one programs that are designed specifically for each situation and should be practiced at home after the class.

Yoga holistic healing is distinct from other forms of conventional therapy in that it works to alleviate localised symptoms as well as addressing the causal and peripheral imbalances that would otherwise allow the problems to re-occur.

Yoga holistic healing recognises that the body and mind are interconnected through the agency of the breath and that there is a direct connection between mental and physical states and the condition of the breath. Long slow, steady yoga breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which creates a feeling of peace and calm and allows the body to heal.

A KNOFF YOGA teacher treats you with care and consideration and only starts working with you after reading your health questionnaire and listening to everything you have to say.

The goal of yoga holistic healing is for the student to take control of his or her health, not only to cure a short-term discomfort, but also to stay healthy.

Course Pre-requisites

To join the Yoga Holistic Healing Course A (YOGA THERAPY), you are required to have Level 1 – Discovery and Level 3 – Foundation certification, or an equivalent 200-hour certification. You can submit your application HERE.

Course Description

In Yoga Holistic Healing A, you will learn how to work with people suffering mainly from structural mis-alignments and problems, e.g. back pain, bad posture, herniated discs, knee pain, neck pain, sacroiliac pain, sciatica, scoliosis, weak joints, etc.

There will be yoga holistic healing classes with volunteer students from the public, so you get to experience working with real people. Learn how to put the theory into practice safely and confidently.

In the morning Asana, Pranayama and Meditations sessions, Teacher Trainees will practice actual yoga holistic healing programs in order to feel and understand their application. In the afternoon Teaching Methodology sessions Teacher Trainees assist, provide props, and take photos and notes, while Nicky (or James) teaches. You will get feed-back direct from the volunteer students on how they feel after doing the specially designed programs. We invite people with a range of health issues. Students are welcome to return for future courses to learn more and keepup with the latest information.

The theory and preparation will cover some of the more typical physical mis-alignments and look at how yoga techniques can bring about an improvement. In addition we will look at the ‘bigger picture’ of how we are more than just a body, and how healing occurs on many different levels.

You will receive a Yoga Holistic Healing Manual and a Yoga Holistic Healing Certificate (if you pass the course).

KNOFF YOGA 200-Hour Teacher Training 2018-19

We are very pleased to once again be able to offer this premium quality yoga teacher training – KNOFF YOGA 200-Hour Teacher Training. The course starts in October 2018 with the Discovery course (component), and finishes with the Foundation course (component) in January 2019.

You have the option of enrolling in the Discovery course only, or in both the Discovery and Foundation courses (the complete 200-Hour Teacher Training course).

Applications for enrolment are now open. This is a non-residential teacher training.

Component 1: Discovery Course – Sunday 30/9/18 to Thursday 4/10/18.

Component 2: Foundation Course – delivered in two parts:

  • Foundation Part 1 – Sunday 13/1/19 to Friday 25/1/19. Note: Sundays 13 and 20 are half days. Saturday 19/1/19 is a day off.

Who is eligible for this course

Provided the minimum 12 months of regular yoga practise is met, this course is appropriate not only for existing teachers and practitioners wanting to teach, but also for those looking to deepen their practice. Offering a potent platform for personal development and true transformation through the avenue of yoga, this Discovery course is appropriate for anyone who wishes to further explore their soul journey.

Component 1: Discovery Course Description

The Discovery Course is the beginning level of the KNOFF YOGA Teacher Training and consists of a one week (5-Day) intensive covering everything you need to get you up and running as a yoga teacher.

Following the guidelines of the International Yoga Alliance, you will study Asana, Pranayama & Meditation, Yoga Philosophy, Ethics & Lifestyle, Anatomy and Teaching Methodology.

This Course is based on the unique KNOFF YOGA Principles of:

  • Sequencing
  • Teaching
  • Adjusting
  • Observation
  • Demonstration
  • Practice

The Anatomy covers the basics of movement, muscles and bones and is taught with direct application to the yoga postures. The philosophy looks at: historical and theoretical principles of hatha yoga; the eight limbs of yoga; emphasis is on how theory of yoga translates to practice of life, with particular focus on yamas and niyamas; eastern and western philosophies underlying principles of yoga, and introduces Yoga Sutras, and chanting.

You will receive more than enough information and knowledge to teach competently.

Students who do not wish to teach may also attend the course to intensively deepen their practice and grow their yoga knowledge.

You will receive a Teacher Training Handbook, Discovery Asana and Pranayama Manual and a Discovery Teaching Certificate (providing you graduate).

Component 2: Foundation Course Description

Foundation builds on the skills and knowledge gained in the Discovery course with its own balanced and more challenging syllabus.

During this component which is spread over three parts, you will receive training in 45 asanas, 9 pranayamas, breath focused meditation, yoga philosophy, anatomy and teaching methodology. You will receive a Foundation Asana and Pranayama Manual and your Teaching Certificate (providing you graduate).

Both the Discovery and Foundation Courses are registered with Yoga Alliance – the international yoga teachers association. With these two certificates you can apply to Yoga Alliance for the 200-hour registration and use the letters RYT200 after your name.

Immerse yourself deeply in the practice of Yin Yoga during this 50 hour yin yoga and mindfulness teacher training (non-residential) with Sarah Owen. Yin Yoga uses restorative, floor-based poses to nourish and stimulate the deeper energetic channels in the body, providing support for the immune system. During this 50-hour training designed for Yoga Teachers, Sarah Owen will give you the tools to take your practice to a deeper level. The 50 hour Yin Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher Training Course Curriculum will include the following:

KNOFF Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training from January 2018

Thank you to all who participated in the survey conducted to determine the best format to introduce Knoff Yoga 200-Hour Teacher Training. The survey has now been concluded, and the staggered approach (Option B) has been identified as preferred by the majority. This is a great result, and it is the more conducive format that allows you to receive and integrate all the learning and personal transformation this intensive course offers.

We are hence, very pleased to announce that applications for enrolment are now open for the 200-Hour KNOFF Yoga Teacher Training at Canberra Yoga Space in Philip (Woden) commencing this January 2018. This is a non-residential teacher training.

This training has two components:

Component 1: Discovery Course Level 1 – 2-6 January 2018 (5 days, 8 hours per day).

Component 2: Foundation Course (delivered in three parts)

  • Foundation Part 1 – 14-19 January 2018 (6 days, approx 9 hours per day)

This 5-minute survey is vital for you to read and complete if –

  • You are interested in attending the KNOFF Yoga 200-hour teacher training this Jan 2018, or
  • You have been looking for a high-standard yoga teacher training to attend in the near future, or
  • You are keen to explore yoga more in depth, attending primarily for personal development not so much for teaching certification

As you may already be aware, in discussions with James Bryan and Nicky Knoff (KNOFF Yoga), we are bringing KNOFF Yoga Teacher Training to Canberra Yoga Space this January 2018. We feel very privileged and honoured to be able to offer this premium-grade teacher training to Canberra, and we are now on the final stages of refining the best format to roll-out this world-class training to you.

This survey is to find out which format works best for you, as we will be going for the option that works best for the majority.

The deadline for completing this survey is next Sunday 27 August 2017.

Why this survey?

For those who attended the three-day KNOFF Yoga Master Classes with James Bryan last 14-16 July 2017, you had an experience not only of the extensive knowledge, but also of how demanding the weekend immersion can be on both one’s energy and physical body. The weekend was an empowering and brilliant experience which has barely scratched the surface, and the 200-hour KNOFF Teacher Training will be delivering more!

It is crucial for us to consider the best time-frame and format to deliver this 200-hour teacher training, so as to allow you to receive the most benefit from the course in a manner that is feasible and digestible.

For instance, if you are looking to be able to teach yoga in the quickest time possible and get the certification under your belt, you may prefer Option 1 – four weeks in January 2018. This option is very compact and intense. However, we understand that this period in January may be the only time you can take off work and other commitments, and dedicate time to finish and complete the entire course in one go. Just know that this option may be more demanding on the entire body; and offers less time in between segments to allow you to absorb and assimilate information gradually.

If you are in no rush to complete a teacher training course within a specific period of time, or if you will have trouble getting four solid weeks off work (away from kids or work commitments) in Jan 2018, then Option 2 may be more suitable for you. This still blocks off a big chunk of time in January — two weeks in January, one week in April, and the last week in June 2018.

Two Survey Options

OPTION 1 – KNOFF Teacher Training offered in one chunk

This option is a 1 month intensive – four weeks, 8 hours per day in January 2018
Discovery Segment – 2-6 January 2018 (5 days, 8 hours per day)
Foundation Segment – 15 January – 3 February 2018 (16 days, 8 hours per day PLUS 2 x 2 day breaks included)

PLEASE NOTE: Sarah Owen’s Yin Yoga 50-Hour Teacher Training falls between the Discovery segment and the Foundation segment, it runs from 8-13 January. Sarah’s Yin Yoga teacher training is complementary, and I (Monica) would personally recommend doing both.

OPTION 2 – (KNOFF Teacher Training offered in three segments)

This option is staggered – 2 weeks in January, 1 week in April, and 1 week in June 2018.
Segment 1 – Discovery Segment (2-6 January 2018 – 5 days, 8 hours per day)
Segment 2 – Foundation Part 1 – (15-21 January 2018 – 7 days, 8 hours per day)
Segment 3 – Foundation Part 2 – Monday to Good Friday (26-30 March 2018 – 5 days, 8 hours per day)
Segment 4 – Foundation Part 3 – Queens Birthday June long weekend, Friday to Tuesday. Monday 11 June is a public holiday (8-12 June 2018 – 5 days) broken up as follows:

  • Friday 8 June – 7:30-11:45am + 1:30-5:45pm (8.5 hours)
  • Saturday 9 June – 12pm-3pm (3 hours)
  • Sunday 10 June – 12pm-5pm (5 hours)
  • Monday 11 June – 7:30am-12pm + 1:00-5:30pm (9 hours)
  • Tuesday 12 June – 7:30am-11:30am + 1:30-4pm (6.5 hours)

Important to note about Yoga Teacher Training:

Most people may think that teacher training courses are only for those who wish to teach yoga. When in fact, it is not. The potential for personal growth and transformation a course such as this (KNOFF Teacher Training) offers, is relevant to anyone interested in evolving into the best and highest version of themselves, whether or not you intend to use the experience to teach thereafter. If you are a practitioner of yoga, and you wish to further explore your journey not only in asana, but more importantly in spirituality, consciousness and self-mastery – this course is a highly potent experience, which is relevant to you.

For teachers – if you are a yoga teacher certified in your 200-hour TT, that last course you did was the beginning of the journey ahead of you. You will find that advanced experienced teachers have done at least 2-3 teacher training courses, after their first teacher training.  Sadly, the industry is plagued with a predominance of sub-standard teacher-training and the watering down of centuries-old techniques that make-up the foundations of true yoga practise.

If you feel you need further training, and you wish to learn from advanced yoga practitioner-teachers who have not only mastered their own craft, but have also trained extensively with the yoga masters in India now deceased (B.K.S. Iyengar, Sri Pattabhi Jois,  and Desikachar), this is your opportunity to get that one solid course under your belt.

Immerse yourself deeply in the practice of Yin Yoga during this 50 hour yin yoga and mindfulness teacher training (non-residential) with Sarah Owen. Yin Yoga uses restorative, floor-based poses to nourish and stimulate the deeper energetic channels in the body, providing support for the immune system. Yin Yoga also provides the perfect container to develop deeper levels of self-inquiry and to cultivate the capacity for meditative self-awareness.

During this 50-hour training designed for Yoga Teachers, Sarah Owen will give you the tools to take your practice to a deeper level. You will come away with a clear understanding of safety and anatomical issues pertaining to the Yin Yoga practice, as well as having the ability to creatively sequence yin yoga classes for all levels of students. This training is also designed to deepen your own personal practice of yoga and meditation by incorporating elements of meditation and self-inquiry into your daily yoga practice. The most effective yoga teaching comes from your own personal immersion and deepened personal experience of these ancient methods and teachings.

The 50 hour Yin Yoga and Mindfulness Teacher Training Course Curriculum will include the following:

  • Anatomy and Physiology specific to Yin Yoga
  • Modifications and Safety in Yin Yoga, including the use of props
  • Anatomy of the Subtle Body (meridians and chakras)
  • Mindfulness in Yin Yoga (including two specific methods of meditation – Shamatha and Vipassana)
  • Applications of mindfulness in daily life
  • Sequencing in Yin Yoga (including seasonal sequences)
  • Organs and Meridian Health (using yin yoga to affect specific organs)
  • Yin and Yang Theory (basic Taoist theory and the principles of yin and yang – how they are applied to yoga)
  • Yin Yoga and Meditation as referenced in the ancient scriptures (Hatha Yoga Pradipika/Yoga Sutras, Satipattana Sutta, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita)
  • Pranayama (breathing techniques) for health, relaxation and awaking the energy body
  • Meditation and journaling to deepen the yoga experience

* Whilst this training is designed specifically for qualified Yoga Teachers wishing to teach Yin Yoga classes, this training is also open to dedicated practitioners of yoga, with the intention to use the knowledge to deepen one’s own understanding and practice. About Sarah Owen
